IJ Start Canon Pixma MG4220 Printer Drivers, Software & Manuals Download– The Canon Pixma MG4220 Inkjet Multifunction Printer can easily meet the needs of your home office, but its ink prices are above average and ridiculously expensive if you make the mistake of buying low-yield PG-240 and CL-241 ink cartridges. … On the other hand, it gives good results, is fast in documents and business copies and automatically duplexes – a good feature for the price.
On this model, Canon continues its practice of placing three buttons below the LCD screen (2.5 inches on the Pixma MG4220) to perform specific actions, instead of allowing you to use a perfectly appropriate four-way slider and the OK button. Jumping between all the buttons is useless and unpleasant. By comparison, the software is an example of efficiency, and the new quick menu for general tasks is easy to see. MFP provides full support for scanning, copying and web printing.
A 100-sheet input tray and a 50-sheet output tray make the Pixma MG4220 a very small-volume printer. The fact that it automatically feeds the print paper on the other side (in other words, automatic duplex printing) is an advantage. You won’t find an automatic document feeder for a Letter / A4 scanner on top of the Pixma MG4220, but the cover expands an inch in size to accommodate thicker media. The MFP card slot supports direct printing of photos from the SD card and Memory Stick.
In our tests, the Pixma MG4220 is fast enough for a home office to print and copy business documents. Monochrome pages came out at about 6.8 pages per minute on the computer and 6.6 pages per minute on the Mac, while copies came in at 6.4 pages per minute. The photos are printed quite slowly. Instant photos (4 “by 6”) printed at just under 3 ppm on plain paper, but only about 0.6 ppm on glossy paper. Full-page color photos displayed on glossy paper at 0.3 ppm, approximately average for entry-level multifunction inkjet printers.
The production of the Pixma MG4220 is good, but typical for the current generation Canon. In the default settings, the text is clear and black, the monochrome graphics have a slight magenta tint, and the color graphics on plain paper can be slightly darker and more contrasting. With the optimal printer settings, the text is good enough for commercial documents, although it comes very slowly compared to the default settings. The color photos look very nice, our only minor complaint is the light orange shade. However, the specified shade gives the images a friendly and warm atmosphere.
Now for the bad news. The ink costs for the MG4220 are generally high, but you don’t have to buy the 180-page black PG-240 cartridge or the CL-241 unified color cartridge (the same types of cartridges that come with the device). : 10.6 cents per page for black and 13.9 cents per page for color, their cost is prohibitive. From now on, the story gets a little better. The 300-page black XL costs $ 21 or 7.0 cents per page, and the 600-page black XXL costs $ 38 or 6.3 cents per page.
This involves a use similar to the industry standard used to measure page yield. If you use much more one-color ink, you will need to replace the entire cartridge, even if there is a lot of ink left for the other colors. A four-color page printed using black XL and XXL color cartridges costs just under the average of 13.8 cents.
The Canon Pixma MG4220 has decent performance and enough speed for most home offices and is one of the cheapest multifunctional duplex cars around. However, you have alternatives. The HP Photosmart 5520 has cheaper ink, and the Brother MFC-J625DW also has an automatic document feeder.
